The data presents the findings from two separate studies, which were conducted a decade apart, regarding attitudes to the environment in an unnamed European country, starting in 2000. Overall, it can be clearly seen that those surveyed were greener in 2010.

In terms of recycling, there was a rise in the number of individuals who felt that recycling should be done more. The percentage in 2010 was around 8% higher than in the previous survey. Interestingly though, the percentage stating that there should be less recycling was almost identical in both questionnaires.

As for the frequency of recycling, there were rises in all categories apart from the ‘never’ option. For example, the number of those claiming that they ‘always’ or ‘often’ recycle more than doubled in each case, whereas there was a massive drop in the percentage of those who ‘never’ recycle. It fell by almost a half from its original figure of just over 50% in 2000.

Similarly, there was a growth in the purchase of eco-friendly products, for example, around a quarter stated that they sometimes purchased them in 2000, compared to around a third in 2010. Moreover, there was a significant drop in the quantity never buying them in 2010.
